In the airport sector, FCC Construcción’s major milestone in Romania is the modernisation of Bacău International Airport (one of the country’s main airports).
It designed and built a new runway. The project involved demolishing the old runway to construct a completely new one 2,500 metres long and 45 metres wide.
The project included a turning apron for aircraft manoeuvres at one end, the extension of the boarding and disembarkation apron, the refurbishment of the taxiways, a perimeter safety road and the installation of new lighting and safety systems.
This refurbishment significantly increased the airport’s operational capacity and passenger throughput in the region.
