Glina Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) (Bucharest)
This is one of the company’s most ambitious and complex environmental projects ever undertaken in Eastern Europe. The project involved the modernisation and expansion of the Glina wastewater treatment plant, designed to serve more than 2.4 million residents of the capital, Bucharest.
The work presented an enormous engineering challenge, as the expansion and refurbishment of the biological reaction tanks and clarifiers were carried out whilst the plant was fully operational, without interrupting the city’s wastewater treatment.
The plant includes a sludge incineration facility which enables a drastic reduction in waste and the recovery of thermal and electrical energy for the complex’s own consumption.
