MODELING SYSTEM FOR THE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF PORT INFRASTRUCTURES ADAPTED TO CLIMate CHANGE

Objective

To develop an innovative modular system with new professional methodologies for the design and construction of port infrastructures adapted to climate change within the framework of uncertainty, bringing together databases and mathematical, numerical and statistical design tools, as well as international regulations, recommendations, methodologies and reference manuals, and their interrelation with state-of-the-art construction procedures, within a framework of normalization, standardization and traceability of the processes

Specific objectives:

  • To develop specific methodologies for the analysis of risk associated with climate change in ports following the IPCC guidelines for risk analysis in complex systems, which indicates that risk assessment in ports results from the interaction between the climate hazard, the materials/equipment exposed and how vulnerable they are.
  • To develop methodologies for the analysis of climate risk associated with the construction of ports, highly conditioned by the great uncertainty regarding the definition of the hazard of the physical environment that such works usually entail.
  • To make a catalog of products or type projects that the port technician/engineer can solve, through the interrelation of variables, models and advanced post-processing techniques. All this will be designed under the prism of comparison and compliance with the most relevant recommendations and regulations for the operational, functional and ultimate design of ports (Maritime Works Recommendations or ROM Program, recommendations published by PIANC, British Standards, etc.).
  • All the developments will be compatible with the BIM (Building Information Modelling) methodology, mainly in terms of the treatment and standardization of the spatial data generated..
  • For the design of ports, the characterization and use of renewable energies will be considered, favoring energy neutralization in ports.
