The refurbishment of the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium wins the ENR Award for best sports infrastructure worldwide

FCC Construcción has won the prestigious international ENR Awards for best global sports infrastructure for its ‘Santiago Bernabéu Stadium renovation’ project. FCC Construcción received the award for the complete renovation of the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, recognised by Engineering News-Record (ENR) in its Global Best Projects Awards 2025.

ENR's Global Best Projects Awards are one of the most prestigious awards in the international construction and engineering industry. In its thirteenth edition, a panel of experts evaluated around 90 entries from around the world, selecting 32 winning projects located in 24 countries on all continents. The rigorous selection process analyses the safety, innovation, teamwork and excellence in the execution of each project.

This recognition reinforces FCC Construcción's position as a leading company in the design and construction of international infrastructure. The company ranks 27th in ENR's ‘Top 250 international contractors’.

The Santiago Bernabéu, designed and built by FCC Construcción, has received various international awards, but we must highlight the award for the best stadium in the world in 2024 by the World Football Summit (WFS), the leading platform for the global football industry. The award highlights the innovative features of the Santiago Bernabéu and its ambitious vision to redefine not only the landscape of sports stadiums, but also the cultural and economic fabric of Madrid.

The award highlights the ‘unique innovation’ carried out by FCC Construcción in different aspects of the new Santiago Bernabéu, such as the construction of a state-of-the-art retractable pitch with an underground greenhouse, a 360-degree video scoreboard that wraps around the entire interior of the stadium, and the external digital skin that makes it a dynamic urban landmark.

Its combination of cutting-edge technology, sustainability and multifunctionality sets a new standard for what a modern stadium can be. It is a turning point in the industry and a vital asset for Madrid's economy. The Santiago Bernabéu project exemplifies FCC Construcción's commitment to innovation, excellence and the development of solutions that set new standards in the industry.
