FCC wins 350 million euro contract to build a sport complex in Algeria.

The Directorate of Youth and Sports of the Tizi Ouzou Wilayah -province- in Algeria has awarded the joint venture composed of FCC Construcción and the private Algerian group ETRHB Haddad a contract to build a sport complex with a budget of 359 million euros and a term of 30 months.

The work will include the construction of a 50,000 seat football stadium; a 6,500 seat athletic stadium; urbanisation of the entire area, the construction of parking garages and conditioning of the exterior perimeter, in addition to a grass football pitch.

The design of the roof covering the stands is unique, using metal sheets fastened directly to the concrete structure itself.

The athletic stadium will have tracks and stands on one side. The construction system is similar to that of the stadium, although this stadium will not be covered.

In the last three months, FCC has won five new contracts to build as many sport complexes, four in Poland and this one in Tizi Ouzou in Algeria, valued at 874 million euros.

In Poland

FCC has been chosen to build four new football fields in Poland, which will host the Eurocopa in 2012.
• The National Stadium in Warsaw will have 55,000 seats. The contract is valued at 295 million euros. The ceiling will be an impressive structure composed of steel cables to give the stadium a spectacular look. The construction period is 24 months.
• Krakow. The current Krakow stadium, the home of Poland's oldest football club founded in 1906, is located in the centre of the city and will be completely renovated and rebuilt. It currently has 7,000 seats, 1,100 of which are covered. The new stadium, designed by the Spanish architectural firm, Arquitectos Lamela, will have 15,500 seats and the grandstands will be replaced with modern stands made of reinforced concrete, partially covered. The construction budget is 35 million euros.
• Baltic Arena, Gdansk. The stadium will be built on 39 hectares of land near the city centre. It will have 44,000 seats and 6,500 parking spaces. The 15,891 m2 structure will emulate the traditional design of Gdansk ships. The budget is 95.5 million euros.
• Posen Stadium. The existing Posen stadium will be renovated and enlarged, including two new grandstands and a new roof. The new stadium will have 47,000 seats when finished and a total of 1,600 parking spaces. The contract is valued at 89 million euros.

FCC's experience in the construction of sport complexes.

FCC has recognised experience building large sport stadiums all over the world. The most notable references in this area include the Allianz Arena in Munich, site of the official inauguration of the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany and one of the most spectacular stadiums in the world.
FCC also renovated and enlarged the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium for the Real Madrid; the Vicente Calderón for the Atlético de Madrid; the Nou Camp facilities for the Fútbol Club Barcelona; the El Sardinero football field in Santander; Ciudad Deportiva Joan Gamper for Barcelona; the new Real Madrid sport city in Valdebebas and the Español's new football field in Cornellá. In 2007 it won a contract to build a new stadium for the Valencia Football Club with seating for 75,000 spectators which will replace the old Mestalla stadium.
On the occasion of the 2008 Eurocopa, FCC, through its subsidiary ALPINE, renovated and enlarged the 30,000 seat Wals-Siezenheim stadium in Salzburg, the 31,600 seat Tivoli in Innsbruck and the Wörthersee in Klagenfurt, which won the Construction Award given out by the Austrian State of Corinthia. FCC recently completed work on a cricket stadium in Dubai and the Caja Mágica tennis complex in Madrid.

Presence of the FCC Group in the Republic of Algeria

The FCC group was already present in Algeria through its water management subsidiary, Aqualia, with two important contracts awarded by the Algerian Energy Company (AEC) for the construction and management of two seawater desalination plants in Mostaganem and Cap Djinet. The two contracts combined, which are managed equally by FCC and the OHL subsidiary INIMA in a joint venture, account for 1,100 million euros of revenue.
