FCC Construcción takes part in the Spanish King and Queen's state visit to the Netherlands

FCC Construcción took part in the Spanish King and Queen's state visit to the Netherlands. The trip has allowed the continuity of the traditional relationship of friendship between the two countries, as well as continuing to strengthen the bilateral relationship. Both countries enjoy very satisfactory diplomatic relations. There is a constant flow of contacts, dialogue and ideas between the two countries by virtue of the interest between two cultures of great prestige, a high recognition for shared history, tourist exchanges and complementarities in industry and services.

FCC Construcción took part in the King and Queen's reception for several Spanish businessmen in the Netherlands. The chairman of the FCC Group, Esther Alcocer Koplowitz, attended the gala dinner with Their Majesties the King and Queen of Spain and the King and Queen of the Netherlands, as well as the business forum between Spain and the Netherlands. The forum was also attended by Alcibiades López, Business Development Director for Europe. At the business meeting, there were exchanges focused especially on three sectors: technology finance (FINTECH), infrastructures and cybersecurity. In addition, Yago Mijangos, FCC Construcción's Director of the Middle East, Europe and Australia, took part in a business meeting between the Spanish community and the Netherlands in the presence of Their Majesties the King and Queen.

Spain is the seventh EU country with the highest number of workers in the Netherlands and accounted for 3.83% of all EU workers working in the Netherlands in 2022. The sectors with the highest presence of Spanish employees are business services and almost 45% of Spanish workers in the Netherlands were under 30 years old in 2022, which is also higher than the 37% in 2021. The presence of Spaniards in international organisations is very relevant as the Netherlands hosts, among others, the headquarters of several United Nations bodies (mainly the International Court of Justice and the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals), of the European Union (Eurojust, Europol, the European Medicines Agency, the European Patent Office, among others), as well as NATO, the OSCE Office for Minorities and the European Space Agency, to name a few of the main ones. A total of 802 people with Spanish nationality work in these organisations based in the Netherlands.

During the business meeting, part of FCC's participation in the project to widen the A9 Badhoevedorp-Holendrecht motorway (Netherlands) was presented. The project consists of remodelling an 11.4-kilometre-long section of the A9 motorway between Badhoevedorp and Holendrecht. The work consists of widening the platform from three to four lanes in each direction, with the corresponding expansion of existing structures (11), new junctions with other roads, as well as bridges and tunnels. In this respect, there is a section of 1.7 km where it is planned to lower the gradient (currently an embankment) and turn it into a trench section, with three covered subsections. The project has been carried out while maintaining traffic on the existing motorway and minimising the impact on the urban environment.
