FCC Construcción (NL) is deeply committed to sustainability and has set ambitious goals in this area. One key activity the company is developing in the A9 BaHo project is to achieve Level 5 on the CO2 Performance Ladder, which represents the highest attainable standard, aiming to minimize CO2 emissions in both our operations and the execution of the A9 BAHO project. This is the highest possible level of the CO2 Performance Ladder. By aiming for level 5 of the performance ladder, FCC Construcción (NL) does not only consider the project's own emissions, but also the CO2 emissions caused by the entire value chain as well as the sector.

FCC Construcción (NL) will soon be audited by an independent body to verify whether the VeenIX A9 BAHO project complies with all the derived requirements to renew the level 5of the CO2 Performance Ladder manual, version 3.1. In the exercise transparency, FCC Construcción S.A. quantifies its CO2 emissions and verifies them under the ISO 14001:2018, including all the countries the company operates. 

FCC Construcción NL and the A9 BaHo project also works towards continuous improvement implementing the “Deming circle” (Plan-Do-Check-Act), in which it follows all the necessary requirements to achieve the level 5 of the CO2 Performance Ladder, which includes implementing the CO2 management system, calculating the greenhouse emissions of the project, updating every year all the information and promote good environmental practices in the company and the project. 

Participating with other parties across the sector and value chain continues to drive innovation. Stakeholder interaction remains a fundamental pillar for VeenIX, reinforcing transparency, sustainability, and collective well‑being. In 2025, Rijkswaterstaat worked with VeenIX A9BaHo project with other partners along with the CO2 Performance Ladder, as a leading example of circularity in Dutch infrastructure, emphasizing the reuse of materials to lower environmental impact.
