FCC, through its Construction division, has been awarded the contract to build the bypass for Route C-17 in Chile. The contract awarded to the Spanish group is worth approximately €20 million.

With this award, FCC Construction enters the mining market and consolidates its presence in Chile, where it has been developing infrastructure projects for over 20 years and has participated in significant projects related to roads and urban access.

The project will be located south of the town of Diego de Almagro and will consist of a bypass for Route C-17 (administered by the Ministry of Public Works' Directorate of Roads), which will be called "Eje 30" and will be 18.639 kilometers long. The bypass for Route C-17 is designed to have a speed limit of 100 km/h, with specific sections where the speed limit is reduced to 80 km/h.

This project is part of the development being carried out by Minera Santo Domingo (CAPSTONE COPPER), associated with the production of copper and magnetite concentrates, located in the Province of Chañaral, Atacama Region. As a result of the execution of all the works related to this project, it has been determined that a section of Route C-17 needs to be modified.

The C-17 bypass aims to replace the current route, which will be decommissioned in the area due to the construction of the North Pit and the Tailings Dam of Minera Santo Domingo.

This is a strategic project for connectivity and development in the area, improving road safety and the resilience of one of the most important corridors for mining, logistics, and social activity in northern Chile. The area has significant mining operations and requires safe and efficient road corridors for the movement of people, supplies, and goods.
