FCC has been named by the Welsh Government as preferred bidder for the A465 sections 5 and 6 highway improvement project in Wales, United Kingdom. FCC is part of the Future Valleys consortium, in which the Irish company Roadbridge and the Welsh company Alun Griffiths participate, together with Meridiam, the international investment fund.

The project consists of an 18km upgrade of the A465 highway, in sections 5 and 6, located between the towns of Dowlais Top, Merthyr Tydfil and Hirwaun, delivered with a PPP model. Currently, these sections of the road are single carriageway with heavy traffic.

The award of the project, which will complete the A465 improvement works, is important for the improvement of mobility and connectivity in Wales, as well as supporting economic growth in the region. The improvement of these sections of the A465 represents an important investment that will generate benefits for local companies who participate in the development of the works.

This project is in addition to others recently awarded to FCC such as the design, construction and maintenance contract for a section of the A9 Badhoevedorp-Holendrecht motorway in the Netherlands, the company's first contract in the country.
