FCC Construction Australia wins contract to carry out major works on the Barwon Heads Road upgrade, phase 2

FCC Construction Australia has been awarded the contract to carry out part of the Barwon Heads Road upgrade, phase 2. This important infrastructure project will support the rapid growth of the Charlemont and Armstrong Creek communities by improving traffic flow, alleviating congestion and increasing safety along this busy corridor.
It will carry out key works between Boundary Road and Lake Road, including:
- Construction of new lanes
- Major improvements to several intersections
- Widening of the existing bridge over Armstrong Creek
- A new shared lane for pedestrians and cyclists, cycle lanes on the carriageway and a new shared bridge for pedestrians and cyclists
The first activities of the project are currently underway, consisting of the installation of traffic barriers, relocation of services and the start of construction along Barwon Heads Road.
Once completed, the corridor upgrade will provide improved access to public transport, safer connections for pedestrians and cyclists, and more reliable travel for the approximately 35,000 drivers who use the road each day.
This project, in partnership with Major Road Projects Victoria, is key to improving mobility in the Geelong region. The project is expected to be completed in 2027.
