FCC Construcción and Convensa lead the track laying on the Mediterranean high speed corridor

By providing machinery and equipment specialised for railway work, FCC Construcción and its subsidiary Convensa led the track laying on the Mediterranean high speed corridor works for the connections with the Madrid - Barcelona - French frontier high speed line on the Vandellós – Tarragona section.

The work consists of installing the track superstructure throughout the section as well as all the infrastructure actions needed for its proper implementation.
The new alignment, 65.2 km long, is suitable for high speed and mixed traffic and will connect the Mediterranean corridor from Vandellós with the Madrid - Barcelona - French frontier high speed line and with the conventional gauge Tarragona - Reus line.

This section includes new stations in L’Hospitalet-Mont-Roig and Cambrils-Salou and the train passing post (TPP) at Rifá that can handle trains of up to 750 metres. The maximum speed on the line will be 200 km/h on both the Iberian gauge area and on the standard gauge area.

The railway line will be equipped with approximately 35.3 kilometres of double Iberian gauge track between Vandellós and La Boella, where there will be two gauge changers for the connection with the Madrid - Barcelona - French frontier high speed line. From the changers at La Boella to the Camp de Tarragona station, the alignment has a double standard gauge track approximately 11.5 kilometres long.

Currently, work on the platform and the two gauge changers are terminating and work continues on track laying, the catenary and safety and communications installations as well as the civil engineering for the emergency exit from the Los Rojales tunnel are under way. The work is scheduled to finish in summer 2018.
