On 25 September the Board of Directors of the Santa Cruz -Tenerife- Port Authority awarded the works contract for phase 2 of the new Tenerife East container base, worth €21,226,530 to FCC Construcción, in a joint venture with another company.

The works consists of extending the existing mooring line by 360 metres, to a depth of 16 m, and creating a platform with an area of 55,000 square metres. Nine reinforced-concrete caissons 33.75 metres long and a further two 25.75 metres long -all non-reflective- will be built on a mixed-grade rubble bed with a 100-200 Kg rockfill filter and a 2-tonne rockfill protective mantle.

The project also includes the construction of the Barranco del Bufadero channel by building two multicell reinforced-concrete frames, each with five cells, 3.65 x 2.10 and 191 ml in length, and refurbishing the coast road, including paving, execution of Basic services, street furniture and final landscaping, to include new parterres and the planting of various different species.
