FCC Construcción participates in the UN Global Compact Leaders Summit on its 25th anniversary

FCC Construcción participated in the UN Global Compact Leaders Summit. This summit brought together companies, governments and civil society to accelerate the adoption of measures related to the Ten Principles and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at a crucial moment, as the world's largest corporate sustainability initiative celebrates its 25th anniversary.
The Summit was held during the 80th session of the UN General Assembly and featured a programme focused on practical tools, networking and peer learning as part of the activities of the United Nations Global Compact, a space dedicated to exclusive events and networks for participants.
During the year, FCC Construcción and various companies reflected on the ‘25 years of the United Nations Global Compact’ and developed and participated in plenary and practical sessions covering sustainable finance, next-generation sustainability reporting and the business case for resilience and growth in uncertain markets. The day concluded with remarks from the Executive Director of the United Nations Global Compact, Sanda Ojiambo, and a presentation by actor and author Rainn Wilson.
Notable speakers included leaders from IKEA (Ingka Group), Global Reporting Initiative, L'Oréal Group, Fujitsu, City Developments, Acciona, Novonesis, Schneider Electric, Neoenergia, Tesco, Singaland Asetama, Hermes and others, highlighting the breadth of sectors involved in translating principles into results. FCC Construcción participated, through Maria Carrasco, the company's CFO, in a session dedicated to sustainable finance and the role of women in it.
The use by companies of different regulations was discussed, as well as how the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) serves to convert sustainability reports into useful information for decision-making; dialogues exploring innovations in sustainable finance to attract large-scale private capital; sessions on “selling sustainability” focused on credible key performance indicators; and a presentation on SDG innovation showcasing solutions from companies across all regions and sectors.
Sanda Ojiambo, Executive Director and CEO of the United Nations Global Compact, said: "Twenty-five years on, the United Nations Global Compact remains a bridge of trust between business and the United Nations. This year's Leaders Summit was designed to help companies move from commitment to concrete results, and more quickly. At the United Nations Global Compact, we provide our participants with clearer pathways, mobilise coalitions to remove systemic barriers, and show, through data and real-world examples, how responsible businesses deliver value to people, the planet and performance."
FCC Construcción urged companies to be provided with a personalised and digitised learning process (including a modernised Communication on Progress); to catalyse collective action in four areas of impact (climate and nature, decent work and living wages, gender equality and sustainable finance); and strengthen the evidence base through platforms such as the Forward Faster Initiative and the CFOs Coalition for the SDGs, through regional hubs and national networks to translate the Ten Principles into comparable and credible outcomes by 2030.
