FCC Construcción continues its upward trajectory in the UK business, winning our largest contract with the award of the £1.25 billion (approximately €1.5 billion) A303 Stonehenge Bypass tunnel project. FCC and our consortium partners were awarded the contract to improve the A303 trunk road including a bypass tunnel near Stonehenge between Amesbury and Berwick Down in the south of England. The project entails building a 13 kilometre dual carriageway with a 3.3 kilometre tunnel to remove traffic that passes through the UNESCO World Heritage site whilst improving traffic flows along this critical link to the South-West. The project is set to create more than 1000 jobs, bringing much needed economic activity to this part to England. 
 
 Commissioned by the UK’s highways authority, National Highways, the project forms part of the incumbent governments pledge to modernise Britains infrastructure. FCC led a consortium that includes Italian contractor WeBuild, and Austrian tunneling specialist BeMo Tunneling UK to a successful procurement process. Known as the ‘main works contract’ the A303 Stonehenge contract includes civil, structural, electrical, mechanical and technological components as well as procurement of the tunnel boring machine. The project is programmed for a construction period of 5 years with a 25 year maintenance regime. 
 
 FCC Construcción adds the A303 Stonehenge Bypass project to a list of successes over the past few years, which includes being chosen as the preferred delivery partner for the £600 million Jersey Hospital project and the award of the £650 million A465 Heads of the Valleys road project in Wales which is currently in the construction phase. This adds to FCC’s historical successes in the UK such as the the Mersey Gateway Bridge over the Mersey River and the Enniskillen Hospital in Northern Ireland amongst others.
