FCC Construcción will develop the reform that will make the Club de Mar Mallorca the most modern port in the Mediterranean

The company FCC Construcción and the Mallorcan company Vías de Obras Públicas (VOPSA) will be responsible for executing the reform of the Club de Mar Mallorca that will transform the maritime port of Palma at its western end and open the port to the city.

The works, once signed the agreement between the club and the construction companies, will begin predictably in the autumn of this year and will be completed in 2022, after the Port Authority of the Balearic Islands (APB) and Puertos del Estado, a body under the Ministry of Development, have given the green light to the project.

Borja de la Rosa, president of Club de Mar Mallorca, has assured that the election of FCC Construcción and VOPSA, two "solvent and prestigious" companies, guarantees the development of a reform "destined to turn our club into the most modern recreational port. and sustainable of the Mediterranean ".

The work of the Club de Mar Mallorca, added De la Rosa, "will initiate the process of global reform of the Paseo Marítimo de Palma and will give a strong impulse to the integrating concept of port-city promoted by the City Council in collaboration with the APB, through the expansion of the areas of public use of the concession and the creation of an axis of connection between the promenade and the Cruise Station, in addition to the improvements in the services that the new facility will allow us to lend to our partners and users. "

The largest nautical work in Spain

The Board of Directors of the APB approved the renovation project of the Club de Mar Mallorca on October 18, 2017, which meant extending the concession term until 2044, in exchange for investments in the public space worth more than 50 million of euros. Also, as part of the agreement, the sports nautical entity, founded in 1969, committed to pay the figure of 250 million euros in fees for 25 years. These figures make the Club de Mar Mallorca project the most important in recreational boating in Spain.

The extension of the concession will come into force in October of this year. José Luis Arrom, director of the Club de Mar, emphasizes that its socio-economic impact will be very important for the city. "We hope to generate around 500 new direct and indirect jobs and that investment in infrastructures will translate into a value of the facilities of 170 million euros at the end of the concession term. This implies an undoubted benefit for the public sector through the private initiative ".

The project places sustainability and respect for the environment among its priorities. "We wanted a port of the 21st century, adapted to the social demands and sensitivities of our time. The new installation will allow us to expand the policies of environmental efficiency, quality, safety and service that we have already been applying, "adds Arrom.
