FCC Construcción completes a section of the first underground metro in Lima (Peru)

FCC Construcción finaliza un tramo del primer metro subterráneo de Lima (Perú)

FCC Construcción has completed the first phase of the first underground metro in Lima, Peru. This is stage 1A of Line 2 of the Lima and Callao Metro, the first in the country that will circulate underground and that will link the capital of Peru with the port of Callao.

The president of Peru, Dina Boluarte, was the first person to access the metro boarding area at the Santa Anita Market station. Citizens will be able to travel for free, in a trial phase, during the next three months, between the five inaugurated stations. This first section of Line 2 will link five stations that are located in the districts of Ate and Santa Anita and will finally connect with the port of Callao.

It is the first underground automatic metro in Peru, safe, modern, sustainable, accessible. The first stage will allow you to get from the Santa Anita Market to the Evitamiento station in approximately seven minutes, unlike the 30 minutes it currently takes to travel that route by public transportation.

The total project consists of the construction of 35 underground metro stations linked along 35 kilometers of tunnels. More than 3,000 professionals participate in the works. The choice of an underground transportation system will allow for less impact on city life, in addition to a true urban transformation given that many surface lands through which the new Metro will run will be converted into green areas.

Line 2 will have a length of almost 27 kilometers and will cover the East-West axis of Lima from Ate to Callao. Once in operation, its 27 passenger stations will serve more than 600,000 people a day, who will save up to 90 minutes on their journey.

For its part, the branch of line 4 that will connect the Peruvian capital with the airport will run along eight kilometers of tunnel, from Faucett to Néstor Gambetta avenues. Eight stations will be built on this route.

In addition, the project includes the execution of the superstructure, the supply of rolling stock, the implementation of the electromechanical equipment, the railway systems and the electrical power supply, necessary for the operation of the metro.

The concession company for Line 2 of the Lima and Callao Metro is made up of Iridium, Dragados, FCC, Webuild, Cosapi, Hitachi Rail STS and Hitachi Rail Italy SpA, companies that operate more than 3,650 kilometers of tunnels and hundreds of stations built in cities such as New York, Riyadh, San Francisco, London, Rome, Madrid, Santiago de Chile, Panama, Doha, among others.
