FCC Construction Australia Marks Milestone with First Modular Buildings Installed at Cairns Social and Affordable Housing Precinct

FCC Construction Australia (FCC) has reached a significant milestone at Queensland’s largest social and affordable housing precinct in Woree, South Cairns, with the successful installation of the first modular buildings onsite.
Delivered in partnership with the Queensland Government, Tetris Capital and Community Housing Ltd, the precinct is the largest residential modular housing development undertaken in Australia and the Southern Hemisphere. It will deliver 490 homes for seniors and people living with disability.
As Principal Contractor, FCC is leading the design and delivery of 16 architecturally designed buildings made up of 1,008 prefabricated modules. The modular approach is being used to fast-track delivery while maintaining high construction standards. Manufactured offsite by FCC’s supplier Modscape, the modules are then transported to site and craned into position with minimal disruption to the surrounding area.
The project team recently marked the milestone by walking through the newly installed apartments alongside project partners, and representatives from the Queensland Government. It was an opportunity to reflect on the progress made so far on this important community-focused development.
This milestone highlights the strong collaboration across partners and FCC’s commitment to innovation, adaptability and delivering high-quality housing solutions at scale.
Once complete, the precinct will offer one and two-bedroom homes set within landscaped gardens, with shared outdoor spaces including BBQs, picnic areas and playgrounds to foster a sense of community.
