FCC consortium reaches financial close on the Yonge North Subway Extension Advance Tunnel project in Ontario

FCC announced today that North End Connectors, a consortium in which FCC holds a 33.3% stake, has secured financing from Infrastructure Ontario (‘IO’) and Metrolinx for the advanced tunnel project for the Yonge North subway extension in Ontario. The design, construction and financing contract is valued at $1.4 billion, with FCC's share amounting to $477 million.
North End Connectors, formed by FCC Canada (‘FCC’), subsidiary of FCC Construccion, Aecon and Ghella, will design and construct a tunnel section of approximately 6.3 kilometres, an at-grade section along the existing railway corridor in the northern section, launch and extraction shafts, and headwalls for buildings and emergency exit stations. The scope of work also includes the supply of tunnel boring machines, the installation of tunnel linings and ancillary activities. Once the design development phase is complete, construction is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026 and be completed in 2030.
The project will extend the TTC's Line 1 subway service by approximately 8 kilometres from the current terminus at Toronto's Finch station to the York region, including sections through Markham, Vaughan and Richmond Hill.
