125 years shaping the world around us

This year the FCC Group is commemorating a historic milestone: 125 years of history. Since its founding in 1900, FCC has been present in the life of cities and caring for people's well-being, as well as in the great moments of social transformation, consolidating its position as an international benchmark in environmental services, integral water cycle management, infrastructure development and concessions.
Throughout more than a century, FCC has demonstrated a solid capacity for adaptation and growth, expanding its activity to more than 25 countries and always maintaining its commitment to innovation, efficiency and the well-being of citizens. This celebration not only recognises FCC's past, but also reaffirms the Group's commitment to a more sustainable, resilient and connected future.
At the beginning of the last century, the company contributed to the construction of cities and played an important role in making them more liveable by promoting waste management and urban sanitation. And in the middle of the 20th century, the FCC Group understood how important transport and communications were and took part in the construction of kilometres of motorways, railway and metro lines, while at the same time it was involved in the management and cleaning of parks and gardens.
In the seventies and eighties it opened up to the world, as did all Spaniards, and the great works abroad arrived. It was able to see that water is a very precious commodity and faced the challenge of managing this resource efficiently to guarantee the water supply to homes, implementing innovative technologies and practices.
FCC has also been an accomplice in great moments such as the Seville World's Fair, which has left an indelible mark, where it built bridges that are now an icon of architecture and some of the most emblematic pavilions of that exhibition. But his commitment to progress did not stop there. He embarked on the adventure of building the high-speed railway, a technological milestone that revolutionised the way of travelling in our country and that would give the railway back its leading role, consolidating it as a fast, efficient and sustainable mobility option. These milestones, which reflect its capacity to innovate and its commitment to development and social welfare, are part of its history and inspire it to look to the future with optimism and determination.
The first decade of the year 2000 will be remembered for the emergence of the euro, the European Union's common currency, which came into circulation on 1 January 2002. At the start of this new century, FCC continued to adapt to the times, making a firm commitment to the environment with major collection, recycling, water, construction and concession projects in which society played a crucial role by adopting new habits in favour of sustainability and protection of the planet.
Its engineers and technical teams also played a leading role in its constant commitment to innovation and the development of new technologies, continuing to promote technological advances in all the FCC Group's activities and encouraging their application in new projects, with the aim of maintaining the company as a benchmark in its sector over time. All this is reflected in a multitude of projects carried out over the years.
FCC faces the coming years with reasonable optimism, confident that it has sufficiently solid foundations on which to build a business future in line with its brilliant track record.
It will continue to build bridges, tunnels, metro lines, railway lines and airports, as well as large water supply projects and to control, down to the smallest detail, all the phases that comprise the integral water cycle, pursuing the optimisation of resources in order to improve the well-being of citizens. All of this is complemented by a firm commitment to sustainability through a wide range of services aimed at protecting the environment, including comprehensive waste management, street cleaning and maintenance of green areas, making efficient progress in the modernisation and management of sewage systems. Each of these actions reflects a comprehensive and proactive vision towards a cleaner, healthier and more environmentally friendly future.
To give continuity to the FCC Group project that began 125 years ago, FCC requires the commitment and collaboration of all the teams that make up the company, today more than 71,000 people, who without their dedication, responsibility and commitment, it would not have been possible to build the history of FCC. With this commemoration, FCC reaffirms its commitment to continue being an engine of progress for present and future generations.
