FCC Canada is making progress on the Yonge North Subway Extension project, which was visited by Ontario’s Minister of Transport alongside other government representatives, partners and community leaders. They were able to witness the achievement of a new milestone: the completion of excavation work on the launch shaft, from where two tunnel boring machines will begin excavating 6.3 kilometres of twin tunnels beneath the York Region and Toronto.

FCC Canada is contributing to the execution of the advanced tunnelling contract for one of Canada’s largest transport infrastructure projects. This milestone reflects the dedication, expertise and collaboration of our teams and project partners, as we continue to build vital transport infrastructure that will benefit communities for generations to come.

About the Yonge North Subway Extension

The North End Connectors Consortium comprises FCC Canada (‘FCC’), a subsidiary of FCC Construcción, Aecon and Ghella. It will be responsible for designing and constructing a tunnel of approximately 6.3 kilometres, as well as a section of the existing railway corridor in the northern section, in addition to the launch and extraction shafts, and the emergency exit buildings and stations. The scope of the works also includes the supply of tunnel boring machines, the installation of tunnel linings and ancillary activities. 

The project will extend the TTC’s Line 1 metro service by approximately 8 kilometres from the current terminus at Finch Station in Toronto to the York Region, including sections passing through Markham, Vaughan and Richmond Hill.
