Soil and vegetation restoration – Toyo Tunnel

Soil and vegetation restoration – Toyo Tunnel

Description of the Environmental Measure

Problem detected:

During the opening of open-air roads and the construction of Zodmes, adjacent green areas are used as auxiliary land for site huts, machinery or waste storage areas. After use, this formerly green land is left practically barren.

Solutions adopted:

When work in that part of the project has been completed and the site huts or machinery are to be moved, the soil is revegetated by placing a layer of organic soil and sowing Brachiaria or Estrella grass, as well as planting vegetation species (trees). On some occasions, in order to avoid affecting adjacent areas, barriers are installed using stakes and Sarán-type enclosure mesh.

Results:

The land that the project no longer needs to use are revegetated in order to control erosion processes caused by wind and surface water, while also returning to nature an element in good ecosystem condition.
