FCC starts work on El Realito Aqueduct in Mexico

On 21 September Governor Marcelo de los Santos Fraga of the State of San Luis Potosí, Mexico, presided over the ceremony to begin work on El Realito Dam Aqueduct under a contract awarded to a joint venture featuring FCC Construcción and including AQUALIA as well. The 23-year contract with the San Luis Potosí State Water Commission covers piping water from El Realito Aqueduct and treating it for drinking, and the budget is 130.2 million euro.

The event was also attended by the local authorities, Urbano Díaz Barroso, director of the CEA (San Luis State Water Commission), and representatives from the companies that won the concession, CONOISA and AQUALIA, and the builders, ICA, FCC Construcción and AQUALIA INFRAESTRUCTURAS.

There will be 133 kilometres of water pipes and three pumping stations, a pump head of 1,050 metres, a drinking water treatment station and a regulating and flow-control tank. The pipes range between 55 and 24 inches in diameter.

This aqueduct will carry water to more than 400,000 people in the metropolitan area of San Luis Potosí, capital of the state of the same name.
