IMPROVING WATER SAFETY AND INCREASING THE CAPACITY OF THE DAM RESERVOIR THROUGH THE IMPLEMENTATION OF SIDE SPILLWAY COLLECTION CHANNELS
Preparation of a tool that integrates an optimal design code for dam protection elements that protect against overspills. This tool will be responsible for the numerical analysis processes associated modelling of water over the dam in an overspill situation, as well as its interaction with the proposed protection elements, based on the design criteria incorporated.
The project proposes innovative actions to be carried out in dams, such as mitigation elements and other elements for the protection against climate change actions, according to extreme hydrological events or floods, which are increasingly frequent. The calculation tool to design will allow the design of a type of spillway, which until now requires the execution of specific physical model testing campaigns.
The protection elements in this case are presented as a pair of channels or side walls located on both banks, along the foot of the dam, fulfilling a twofold function, i.e., protection and collection of flows to the general dissipation basin.
