AMIROBOTEC
Design and development of a robotic solution for removing hydrocarbon binders containing asbestos.
Objective
The overall objective of AMIROBOTEC is to develop and validate a robotic technology solution for the safe, efficient and automated removal of hydrocarbon binders containing asbestos. To this end, the project proposes the experimental design and implementation of a functional prototype equipped with integrated tools and systems that combine chemical and mechanical treatments and can be operated remotely in controlled environments, particularly in interior refurbishment works where access and exposure conditions pose a high risk to workers.
- Multifunctional robotic platform for the automated removal of asbestos-containing materials and hydrocarbon binders, combining milling, solvent application, thermal treatment and localised extraction technologies
- Identification and classification of hydrocarbon binders combined with asbestos in order to establish a knowledge base that enables the treatments to be adapted as required
- Assessment of chemical treatments compatible with the presence of asbestos, analysing traditional and alternative solvents, as well as operating temperature ranges
- Development of a two-phase validation plan, including laboratory tests with controlled samples and a pilot test in a real working environment
- A robotic system that minimises workers’ direct exposure to asbestos through remote operation of critical tasks
- Reduced resource consumption and waste generation through more selective and precise interventions
