ALPINE lands Austria's biggest railroad engineering contract for the Brenner Base Tunnel
Contract for railroad engineering equipment for the northern feeder line awarded to the ALPINE in a Joint Venture. Contract value 260 million euros. Construction to commence in 2009, completion by 2012.
Brenner Eisenbahn GmbH placed the biggest order for railroad engineering equipment in Austria with a contract value of nearly 260 million euros with the Joint Venture of ALPINE Bau GmbH and other company. The award followed a two-year tendering phase. Construction is to commence in January 2009 and should be concluded by July 2012.
The project comprises a 41-kilometer section from Kundl to Radfeld-Baumkirchen. It will be the first part of the northern feeder line for the Brenner Base Tunnel. The line is part of the railroad axis from Munich to Verona being constructed for high-speed traffic and freight transport. The section is designed for a maximum operating speed of 250 kilometers per hour.
"The large tunnel share with a total of 34 kilometers of double-track tunnels is characteristic for this section," explains ALPINE's managing director, Roman Esterbauer.
Scope of services
The railroad engineering services include the construction of the tunnel floor and boundary zones as well as the construction of the fixed trackway with mass/spring systems. This will be followed by ventilation and electrical installations, safety installations, flood control installations and the enlargement of mechanical services rooms and engineering buildings. The scope of services also includes the construction, operation and the removal of temporary measures such as electricity, communications, ventilation and access control systems used on site.
Some 290,000 cubic meters of concrete will be placed and nearly 31,000 square meters of noise control measures provided. 170 kilometers of track and 1,200 kilometers of cables and pipes will be installed. In addition, equipment for 42 engineering buildings will be furnished.
