Line 2 of the Panama Metro, a project that will benefit residents in the eastern area of the city, registers a 10% completion rate. The works underway include activities such as surveying, relocating public services, piling, ground moving, producing U-girders and area clearing.

This project includes a 21 km elevated railway line and 16 stations from the San Miguelito sector to the Nuevo Tocumen community, passing by José Domingo Díaz Avenue and the Pan-American Highway.
The project is divided into three areas:
- Sector A, from San Miguelito to Villa Lucre.
- Sector B, from El Crisol to the UTP (Tocumen).
- Sector C, from Las Mañanitas to the Yards and Maintenance Depots (located in Nuevo Tocumen).
Panama Metro said that activity is currently underway on 10 work areas and that 25 areas are expected to be simultaneously worked on in the future. The work areas underway include: viaduct (1 Sector C); the Hospital del Este station; Cincuentenario station; the relocation of Public Services; the adaptation of roads; the yards, maintenance depots and industrial area, among others.
In the first phase of the viaduct construction, 40 foundation piles have been constructed (2.25-metre deep foundations), which were established in the technical assessment on the soil type (surveying). Construction of the foundation piles began in mid-September 2015 and currently stands at 80% completion.
As with Line 1, U-girders are being produced in the industrial area of the project, which is located on the Vía Centenario. In the first phase, four girders per week are being produced, which will increase in number according to the work schedule. A total of 13 girders have been produced to date.
In the next few months of 2016, the piling work of San Antonio, Pedregal and Las Mañanitas stations will begin, according to the work schedule. Construction of the pillars and columns in the Hospital del Este station will also commence.
Line 2 of the Metro will have an initial capacity to transport 16 thousand passengers per hour in both directions and will use 21 trains comprising 5 carriages each. It is designed to have a future capacity of a maximum of 40 thousand passengers at rush hour, benefiting a population of over half a million people.
