For the second year in a row, FCC has played partner to the School of Advanced Industrial Engineering of Barcelona -which belongs to Cataluña Polytechnic University- to teach a mini-course on tunnel-boring machines.

The mini-course is part of a larger course on construction and industrial architecture taught by CPU's Department of Construction Engineering. FCC has a long history of working with the department on things related with innovation, and it participates frequently in regional, national and European projects.

The mini-course addresses concepts of applied geotechnical engineering, types of tunnel-boring machines, engine types and differences between hydraulic and electrical engines, cutting instruments, industrialised construction processes associated with TBM use, ancillary systems and industrial accident prevention.

The last activity is a field trip to one of the TBMs FCC has in operation in the area near Barcelona. Classes are given by technicians of recognised experience in the company's production line and technicians from the FCC Technical Management Office for Cataluña.
