Ethical and environmental management consolidate FCC on the Dow Jones

FCC's commitment to social responsibility and sustainability has been recognised by the selective international Dow Jones Sustainability Index, which has included FCC for the third year running in its World and European indexes. The results of the 2010 findings highlight the citizen service company for its economic work (since FCC is a world leader in the heavy construction sector), in economic terms and in three of the index's five criteria: risk and crisis management, codes of conduct (compliance, corruption and bribery) and non-financial project evaluation.

The experts of the world's most-important stock market and business index company have given FCC top marks in two of the environmental criteria, environmental reporting and transport/logistics. FCC's social reporting, environmental management policy and systems and resource efficiency and conservation also scored very well.

The Dow Jones Sustainability Index lists over 300 companies from 27 countries, and it showcases companies committed to engaging in sustainable growth and creating value for shareholders by complying with over ninety strict economic, social and environmental criteria in their business dealings.

FCC's consolidation amongst the world's finest sustainable companies is the outcome of a series of socially responsible actions and achievements undertaken by the Group, whose main shareholder is Esther Koplowitz. Foremost amongst these actions and achievements are supportiveness for integrity through the Group's reporting and training tools. These tools facilitate compliance with FCC's Code of Ethics and its equality and anti-harassment policies, and they have also facilitated the creation of the new Procurement Management Office, whose supplier screening and evaluation criteria include points on corporate responsibility.

The citizen service company has also rolled out initiatives in risk management (including environmental and social risk management), which have been reflected in a reduction of the accident frequency indices of the Group's major divisions. In addition, 72% of the Group's activity can boast environmental certification. The percentage rises to 83% for quality management certification. On the environmental front, some fine results have been obtained in reducing the amount of waste generated, energy consumed and greenhouse gases emitted (a reduction of over a million and a half tons of CO2). Lastly, the FCC Group is working on training as well. The more-than 92,000 employees at FCC have received close to 600,000 hours of training.
