The Ministry of Development has awarded Convensa, a subsidiary of FCC Construcción, the contract to double the track and recondition a 6,475-metre-long subsection of the Murcía-Almería section of the Alcantarilla-Lorca railway line, to make it suitable for speeds of 210 kilometres per hour. The subsection runs through the municipal districts of Alhama and Totana in the province of Murcia.

The building of the new platform includes extending the current platform with a 60 m shaping layer and 30 cm of sub-ballast, laying the Iberian-gauge track, replacing a metal bridge over the Celadas gulley with a viaduct made of prefabricated beams, building one overpass and one underpass, drainage works, a parallel service road, and replacing affected utilities.

The budget for the works is €17.4 M, with completion due in 21 months.
