The Ministry of Development awards FCC a section of the “AVE” High-Speed Train line in Castellón for 83 million euros

The Ministry of Development, through the Railway Infrastructure Administrator -Adif-, is awarding FCC -in Joint Venture- the Almazora-Castellón section of the Valencia-Castellón route on the future Madrid-Castile-La Mancha-Autonomous Community of Valencia-Region of Murcia High-Speed Line. The contract awarded is for a total of 83,226,899 euros.

The Almazora-Castellón section totals 1.8 km. In length. The new layout has been designed for international-gauge, dual track and combined traffic -passenger and freight-.

The platform construction work includes the replacement of the conventional Iberian-gauge line, the new Iberian-gauge line bypass totaling 5 km; the replacement of the Almazora way station for the Valencia-Castellón commuter train line; the new Maintenance Depot for conventional Iberian-gauge tracks; and the adaptation of the Castellón station platforms for future high-speed trains.

The construction of this section, in conjunction with that of all of the other sections along this route will entail some major benefits:
- Interconnection of the provinces of the Autonomous Community of Valencia and their connection with Catalunya and France to the north and with Madrid and Murcia to the south by way of a high-speed line.
- Establishing a new rail connection between the Mediterranean and Cantabrian coasts via Sagunto by way of the future East-West Cantabrian-Mediterranean Corridor.
- Improved safety by way of barriers installed on both sides of the track.
- Higher capacity and improved regularity as of result of availing of a dual track along the entire route.
- Greater comfort, on providing optimum running and route conditions.
- Cutting travel time between Madrid and the provinces of Castile-La Mancha, the Autonomous Community of Valencia and the Region of Murcia.

The new Madrid-Castile-La Mancha-Autonomous Community of Valencia-Region of Murcia High-Speed Line is integrated into the Ministry of Development's 2005-2020 Infrastructures and Transport Strategy Plan.
