FCC Industrial awarded a contract to extend the CNG refuelling stations of the EMT Entrevías and Carabanchel Operations Centres
FCC Industrial has been awarded an EPC contract (Engineering, Procurement, Construction), to extend the Compressed Natural Gas stations of the Entrevías and Carabanchel (Madrid) Operations Centres.
These centres currently have a facility comprising two compressors and three pumps to refuel around 90 EMT buses. An increase in the CNG bus fleet is expected in the near future, making it necessary to increase the refuelling capacity of both centres. The start-up of the extended facilities is also included in the contract.
The works are to be carried in such a way that they do not affect the activity at the operations centres, as the facilities will continue to operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year while the works are underway.
The works have a budget of 1,110,000 euros and a 20-week deadline as from the completion of the engineering work.
FCC Industrial commits to energy efficiency.
This contract is added to others that are underway. In 2014, FCC Industrial, as a member of a joint venture, was awarded a contract to improve the energy efficiency of urban installations that consume electricity (traffic lights, ornamental fountains, tunnels and service areas) in Madrid.
The project involves the most advanced technology to reduce yearly energy consumption by 36%, the equivalent of the yearly power consumption of 226,000 homes. This means a saving in electricity bills of 115 million over the eight-year term of the contract. This contract is the biggest lighting project undertaken in the world due to the number of light sources involved.
Said improvement in the energy efficiency of the city will avert the emitting of over 168,000 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2), equating to the emissions that almost 115,000 vehicles would produce. As a result of this activity, more efficient services, a greater level of quality of life and sustainable development will be achieved. With the awarding of this contract, FCC Industrial strengthens its position as providers of comprehensive solutions, while reaffirming its leadership with the most prestigious public clients.
