FCC signs a sustainable building refurbishment accord

Málaga City Council, acting through the city's Municipal Housing Institute, has signed an accord with the Consortium for Sustainable Refurbishment, a group of five firms from the energy and building sectors led by FCC.
On 11 October last the council authorized the institute to sign the accord, whose objective is to create a comprehensive system for conducting refurbishment projects in which environmental friendliness will be a priority.

The accord sets the outlines for cooperation between the Málaga Municipal Housing Institute and FCC in its capacity as leader of the consortium in charge of the Sustainable Building Refurbishment RDI Project. The consortium is made up of corporate members URSA, OPLAN, ENERGESIS and METALES EXTRUIDOS, and prestigious academic institutions are participating in the consortium as well, including the University of Málaga, the University of Sevilla, Madrid Polytechnic University and the Eduardo Torroja Institute.

Sustainable Building Refurbishment is an RDI project approved by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation's Industrial Development Centre. It consists in a comprehensive system of measures aimed at achieving target climate and environmental comfort levels in existing buildings using a minimum of energy resources and incorporating sustainability criteria into the use of materials. For this purpose, an integrated computer application will be developed that will be used in future as a support tool in decisions concerning comprehensive refurbishment work. Also participating in the project is the regional government of Andalucía, which will facilitate some of its properties for use in theoretical studies on subjects such as the classification of buildings according to heat/energy type, the development of decision-making indicators and the study of water and conventional energy management. In addition, with this accord, the city of Málaga aims to become a national pacesetter in refurbishment and energy efficiency during the four years the accord will be in force.

FCC is committed to sustainable building

FCC participates regularly in energy efficiency projects within the framework of RDI programmes such as the recent Project CETIEB presented in Madrid on 8 November last, which consists in developing tools for the efficient use of buildings and their systems. Project CETIEB has been financed in part by the European Union.
