Gestión de Infraestructuras de Andalucía -GIASA-, a publicly owned company dependent on the Public Works and Transport Department of the Andalusia Council, has awarded FCC Construcción, in a joint venture with a local company, the contract to improve the Jerez Intersection A-389 -Cádiz- section of the A-2003 for 15 million euro in a 21-month completion period.

The assignment is to improve 24 kilometres of the road by widening the road bed to 11 metres and reworking all the existing curves. A two-metre-wide cyclist path will be laid along a large part of this distance, separated from the road by a safety barrier.

The job calls for several structures: one overpass and one underpass crossing the Cañada Real, an overpass crossing road A-389 and lastly an overpass over the Guadalcacín Canal.

Some 110,000 tonnes of blacktop of various types will be used in the job.

Detours will keep the site free of traffic during work.
