Construction of the New Zamora Access officially starts

On 22 February 2010 a ceremony was held to mark the official start of construction of the New Zamora Access and connections to roads CL-527 and N-122. In attendance were the head of the Castilla y León Council Development Department, Antonio Silván Rodríguez, and Zamora Mayor, Rosa Valdeón Santiago.

The job, which will be done by a joint venture in which FCC Construcción is a partner, includes a bridge over the Douro River that will stretch a total of 424.50 metres in length and have a deck width of 14.40 metres, plus the accesses to the bridge, which measure a total of 1,109 metres in length and have six roundabouts.

The bridge will have six spans (40, 70, 92, 92, 92 and 38.50 metres long), and for its construction more than 6,000 m3 of concrete and over 1.6 million kilograms of active and passive reinforcing steel will be necessary.

This is a high-interest project that will lessen city traffic over the Stone Bridge and improve citizen mobility, not just inside the city of Zamora, but also in intercity travel, as new connections with roads N-122 and CL-527 will become available.
