ALPINE awarded contract to build power station in Germany

The new plant, located in Hamm, Germany, is being built for €135 M with completion due in 2012.

ALPINE, the Austrian subsidiary of FCC Construcción, has been awarded a contract by the energy company RWE to built its new coal-fired power station in Hamm, Germany, for 135 million euros. The facility will be fully operational by 2012.

The power station will consist of two identical blocks and a number of auxiliary buildings. With a power rating of 1600 MW and working performance of 46%, these facilities are among the most modern and efficient of their kind and will generate the same amount of energy with about 2.5 million fewer carbon-dioxide emissions per year — a reduction of approximately 30%.

The contract includes earthworks, pouring concrete for the two blocks of the plant and building the auxiliary structures. In order to avoid the environmental impact of heavy truck traffic, the concrete — 255,000 cubic metres — will be made on site at two mixing plants.

ALPINE is also building power stations at Neurath, Germany, with a budget of 38 million euros, at Tsankow Kamak, Bulgaria — Europe’s largest hydroelectric plant — for 166 million euros, and at Ermenek, Turkey, for 157 million euros.</P>
