The Ricardo Magdalena architecture prize this year has recognised ex aequo two projects, the housing block on calle Ranillas by Basilio Tobías and the project on the banks of the Ebro River between Tenerías and Las Fuentes, the brainchild of architects Antonio Lorén and Eduardo Aragües, implemented by FCC Construcción.

At the awards ceremony, stress was laid on the pleasing and effective connections designed in the riverside project for this area of the Ebro. It used to be a green area with scanty tree cover, a difficult terrain to get through in order to reach the river; now it has been made over into an open space for leisure and sport activities.

The job consisted in modelling the earth using natural treatments to make the slope less severe and the installation of paths leading down to the river, so citizens can get to the water's edge. The design takes advantage of the special features of this space, the foremost of which are Unión Bridge and the mouth of the Huerva and Azud Rivers.

The zone has an area of 87,355 square metres and stretches for a length of 1,180 metres.
