FCC has been awarded the contract to build the urban tunnels for the Madrid-Barcelona-French frontier high speed railway line as it passes through Gerona. Worth €278.62 million, the contract will be carried out in a temporary joint venture with other companies.

The new section will be 3.64 km long, of which 2,861 m will be in tunnels built using a tunnel boring machine. The contract also includes the building of the first phase of the new inter-mode station in Gerona.
