FCC Construcción has successfully finished tunnelling Sant Just Tunnel in Barcelona.

This job forms part of the construction project to improve connections between the Abrera and Cardedeu drinking-water treatment plants, along the Fontsanta-Trinitat section. The contract for the tunnel and pipeline, between Riera de Sant Just and the Trinitat distribution station, was awarded in early 2007 by Aguas Ter-Llobregat to a joint venture featuring FCC Construcción for 57.4 million euro.

The tunnel is 5,176 metres long and 5.98 metres in diameter, and it took ten and a half months to build by open double-shielded TBM. The tunnel was lined with precast concrete segments.

During works execution, the tunnel team reached a maximum performance of 60 linear metres a day.
