Avelino Acero, Managing Director of FCC Construcción

FCC has appointed Avelino Acero Díaz as Managing Director of FCC Construcción, reporting directly to the Chairman of FCC Construcción, José Mayor.
Avelino Acero graduated as a civil engineer in 1971. He has been with FCC for 23 years and throughout this time he has held the position of Manager of Railway Works and Metro. He began his professional career with CORSAN, joining FCC in 1986.
Under his management, all types of railway-related works have been carried out, from infrastructure projects for High Speed links, extension works, construction and renovation of conventional lines, to the construction of large stations and very specially, the construction of new metro lines as part of the extension plans of Metro de Madrid. Specifically, Avelino Acero has managed for FCC the construction of 350 kilometres of High Speed links, including 112 kilometres of tunnels, 75 kilometres of metro lines, especially in Madrid, and the building of the last four large stations in Spain: the AVE stations in Santa Justa, Seville, Atocha in Madrid, and Delicias in Zaragoza, and the suburban train station in the Puerta del Sol, Madrid, inaugurated in June this year.
Several bodies have recognised Avelino Acero's role in major engineering works, such as the works executed in the construction of the Guadarrama tunnels, of the High Speed link to the north and northeast of Spain and the extension of Line 3 of Metro de Madrid.
He plays an active role in specialised forums. He is the vice-president of AETOS (Spanish Association of Tunnels and Underground Works). He has delivered speeches at conferences held in different academic forums, such as the Advanced School of Civil Engineering of Madrid or the Advanced School of Architecture of Madrid. He serves on the Teaching Council of the Master's Degree in Tunnels and Underground Engineering sponsored by the Civil Engineers' Association, the Polytechnic University of Madrid and the Spanish Association of Tunnels and Underground Works.
