The Esther Koplowitz Foundation will donate a care centre for people with intellectual disabilities to the Regional Government of Castille and Leon.

To this end, the three organisations signed a protocol today which will regulate the future construction and opening of the residential centre, which has a total surface area of over 6,000 metres squared and capacity to care for 83 elderly or ageing persons with intellectual disabilities, as well as a special regional unit for persons with intellectual disabilities or behavioural problems.

The project, totalling approximately 10 million euros, will be carried out in Valle de Arán Street on a 10,000 metres squared plot of land, made available by the Council, and will include a home for 48 people; a day care centre for 15 people, as well as a special treatment centre for 20 people.

The agreement signed is the beginning of a process which will proceed according to the agreement between the Council and the Esther Koplowitz Foundation for the construction and follow up of the operation of the centre; and another between the Social Services Management in the Regional Government of Castille and Leon and the Valladolid City Council for the management of the same.

It is foreseen that the centre for the care of people with intellectual disabilities will be opened at the end of 2010.
