ALPINE builds motorway in Poland for EUR 223 million

Alpine is to build one of the largest projects in Poland, the southern section of the new A1 motorway, 18.3 km long, a contract valued at €223 million. Work is scheduled to start in December and end in 2010.

The project includes building two junctions and two rest areas as well as 31 bridges between Swierklany and Gorzyczkach. It will require 100,000 m³ of concrete and 13,000 tonnes of steel. The most important structure in the project will be a trussed bridge 380 m long.

The work will involve moving five million cubic metres of earth and laying 380,000 tonnes of asphalt. Alpine will employ 600 workers on this first section of the A1. The A1 motorway will connect Gdansk, in the north of Poland, with the Czech frontier in the south near the city of Ostrav (Czech Republic), a length of 582 km, forming European Route 75 and part of trans-European corridor VI.

Poland will invest up to €26,000 million to 2013 in enlarging is road and rail systems; most of this investment will come from EU funds.
