The President of the Republic, Ollanta Humala Tasso, accompanied by Minister of Transport and Communications José Gallardo, received the members of Concesionaria Metro de Lima-Línea 2 on Friday morning for a business meeting to discuss the stages and timeline for the construction of Line 2 of the Lima Metro, which began just a few weeks ago.

Concesionaria Metro de Lima-Línea 2 is the company that holds the concession to build Lima Metro’s Line 2, and it sent a delegation of its top representatives to the meeting: Carlos Royo, chairman of the Metro de Lima consortium; Ignacio Segura, representing Dragados; Juan Santa María, representing IRIDIUM; Fernando Valdez, representing COSAPI; Guillermo Díaz, representing Salini Impregilo; Salvatore Ricardi, representing Ansaldo; and Miguel Jurado, general manager of FCC.

Line 2 of the Lima Metro is the most important rail project in Peru’s history. It is the country’s first underground railway. Clocking in at 35 kilometres long, it will enable passengers to get from Ate to Callao in just 45 minutes. The project includes a branch of Line 4 to Jorge Chávez International Airport.

This mega-project will improve the quality of life in Lima and save time for millions of Peruvians. Along its route it will cover 13 districts, stopping at 35 stations and benefitting approximately 2.4 million inhabitants. The project will require an investment of approximately 4,400 million euros, and the first section will be completed in 2016.
