The President of Panama, Juan Carlos Varela, pays a visit to FCC works

The President of the Republic of Panama, Juan Carlos Varela, accompanied by the Minister for Canal Affairs and Director of the Panama Metro, Roberto Roy, took a tour of the area under construction of Line 2 of the Panama Metro and the Ciudad de la Salud (hospital) project, both being implemented by FCC in the Central American country.
During the working visit paid by the Panamanian leader and his office, Manuel Antonio Olivares, general manager of FCC Construcción in Central America, and Juan Antonio del Saz, manager of the Ciudad Salud project, respectively, talked about the progress being made on each one of the works.
During the first section of the tour, the FCC managers informed the ministerial team that the Line 2 construction project stands at 15% complete and the Ciudad de la Salud project, the most modern hospital in Central America, at 45%.
Line 2 of the Panama Metro, which is expected to be running in December 2018, and for which a total investment of over 1,8 billion dollars has been made, will comprise a 21-kilometre extension of elevated railway line with 16 stations, and will transport 16,000 passenger an hour in each direction during its first phase. During the visit, President Varela asked for the project to be ready for December 2018, five months ahead of schedule.
Works on the Ciudad de la Salud are at the redesign stage as per the request made by the developer, La Caja de Seguro Social. Progress is made on the project through the selection of equipment and by hiring 200 workers. This manpower will gradually increase to meet the project's completion deadline, which is scheduled for the third quarter of 2018.
The tour around the Ciudad de la Salud, also attended by Marietta Jaén, Deputy Minister of Public Works, kicked off at the visitor centre facilities. It was then followed by a trip to the complex's amphitheatre areas, the street named Calle Hospitalaria, A&E and the upper floors of the facilities.
