Work starts on La Sagrera Station in Barcelona

President José Montilla of the Generalitat -regional government- of Catalonia, Development Minister José Blanco and Mayor Jordi Hereu of Barcelona attended the groundbreaking ceremony for La Sagrera Station in Barcelona on 21 June. A joint venture featuring FCC will be building the accesses to the station for 222.8 million euro.

This project is the most important underground rail job in progress in Europe. It covers an area of 38 hectares and calls for a total investment of 589.2 million euro.
The new, centrally located La Sagrera Station will become a strategic hub in the Barcelona metropolitan area's public transport system, because it will connect the city more quickly and safely with the Spanish national railway system and the European railway system.

The sites of the work to build train and vehicle accesses as well as part of the bus station structure cover quite a large area, between Pont de Bac de Roda and the location of the future station (220 metres long) and from there to what is known as the "railway triangle" (another 780 metres).
