Through its subsidiary Aqualia, FCC has been awarded a new contract in the Middle East. Heading a consortium with the local MACE Company, the firm has been selected to manage the sewerage and wastewater treatment system of the eastern area of the Abu Dhabi emirate, including the city of Al Ain and its surrounding areas.
This contract includes the operation and maintenance of a wastewater sewerage system totaling over 2,400 kilometers with 68 wastewater pumping stations and 19 wastewater treatment plants throughout a seven-year period, adding 76.3 million euros to the business portfolio.
This is the first water management contract awarded to a Spanish company, additionally further strengthening Aqualia's position in this region. This firm is already working in Saudi Arabia, where it is responsible for implementing and carrying out an innovative plan over the next two years for detecting and repairing leaks in the city of Riyadh, making possible such accomplishments as reducing these incidents as well as increasing the system's efficiency ratio.
With this award, Aqualia is taking yet another step forward in its internationalization strategy, in which the Middle East holds a key position.
