FCC to lay underwater gas pipeline from Alicante to Ibiza

FCC and the Italian company Saipem, a group specialising in the engineering and building of gas and oil infrastructures, partly owned by the Italian oil company ENI, have won the contract to build the underwater gas pipeline from Alicante to Ibiza and then on to Mallorca.

The contract is worth over €250 million and was awarded by Enagas. The Balearic Islands gas pipeline will run at depths of 718 to 997 metres. FCC will work with Duro Felguera, which will design and install two tanks each with a capacity of 150,000 cubic metres, for a total of €120 million.

Working in w temporary joint venture, FCC and Saipem will co-operate in the building of this gas pipeline, work on which will start in the autumn of 2008 to avoid the tourist season and will last for between four and six months; the pipeline is scheduled for completion in June 2009.
