Avelino Acero Participates in Valencia’s Sixth Civil Engineering Conference

The general manager of FCC Construcción, Avelino Acero, participated in the Round Table on Internationalization, Innovation and Jobs, one of the events held as part of the Sixth Civil Engineering Conference organized by the Spanish Association of Civil Engineers at the Palacio de Congresos conference centre in Valencia.

The conference, chaired by the Ministry of Development's secretary-general of Transport, Carmen Librero, brought together a multitude of professionals, including senior representatives of Spanish building firms, to discuss jobs, consider the challenges the sector is facing at this time of crisis, put together solutions and present the main technical strides and innovations that have been made in the field of construction and civil engineering.

General Manager Avelino Acero of FCC Construcción participated in the Round Table on Internationalization, Innovation and Jobs, which was moderated by the masterly Manuel Campo Vidal. Mr Acero highlighted the company's great geographic diversification; for example, in six years the percentage of turnover FCC Construcción earns abroad has skyrocketed from 4% in 2005 to 65% last fiscal year.

Avelino Acero justified the need to go abroad to offset the decline in domestic activity; he underlined FCC's determination to become a fixture in its new stomping grounds, and he asked for the Spanish administration and Spanish embassies for their involvement, to help companies become more international.

FCC Construcción has become a multinational that is capable of building anywhere in the world, with one particular feature: the eminently domestic nature of its business. FCC Construcción is local today in half of Europe (the Iberian Peninsula, Austria, Germany, Switzerland and the Czech Republic) and in Central America. In these regions (which account for 78% of FCC Construcción's total production and 75% of its backlog of unfinished work), the company uses FCC-owned local means to build the projects it is hired to do.
