Update information on the Chilean highways

FCC Construcción is executing several highway projects in Chile, specifically Los Vilos Route 5 motorway and the construction of Route t-775 in the Los Rios region.

The improvement of Cuesta Las Chilcas, within the Route 5 Concession, section Santiago- Los Vilos, was awarded to FCC Construcción for the amount of 65 M USD and a 24-month construction period beginning in November 2012. The operation to be executed along 4.7 kilometres consists of improving the transversal section in order to have three lanes going up and two coming down, separated by a barrier or defence in the central reservation, reducing slopes to 7% and increasing the curve radii along the route.

This section is characterised in that it has several significant features along its route; it is sited on a mountain range with longitudinal slopes of up to 9%, plan curves with a mean radius of some 300 metres having transverse sections without any berms or central separations.

The proposed route is developed with plan geometry similar to that currently existing; this proposed geometry will allow a speed of 80 kmh. The Meiggs junction has stopping places on both sides of the highway and pedestrian pavements connected by the proposed footbridge and existing path.

A 200-metre long braking bed shall be implemented on the down track.

Because of the distance and difference of existing elevations, it was necessary to execute various hydraulic works between the current highway and the river Estero Los Loros to control river spates, such as four domes (72, 232, 105 and 50 metres long) and seventy energy dissipaters.

The project contemplates the construction of a new 495-metre long viaduct that starts at kp 75.860 and ends at kp 76.355. It consists of eleven 45-metre sections with a maximum height of 12.5 metres.

Currently, more than 75% of the works are executed, employing around 259 people.

Improvement and construction of Route t-775, sector cr. t-75 (Puerto Nuevo)- cr. t-85 (Quillaico), section dm 0,00 - dm 14.983,79, common to La Unión and Lago Ranco, Province of Ranco, Los Ríos Region. FCC Construcción is constructing this project, which was awarded for 15.7 million Euros and a 26-month execution period commencing in April 2013.

The project includes the improvement and construction of Route T-775 along its 15 kilometres by remodelling the roadway geometry, with high-volume earth movement, the replacement of the 30-metre long Quillín Bridge, together with the construction of the 170-metre River Bueno Bridge located on the high flow rate river of the same name that makes execution highly complicated requiring sheet pile walls and peninsular execution.

There are currently some 129 people employed at the works with over 35% executed.
