Alpine to build new lock in the port of Vienna
With a budget of €15 million, the project will be finished in 2010. The port will continue to operate during the work.

ALPINE has been awarded a new contract, worth €15 million, to build a new lock and pumping station in the port of Freudenau, between the outer harbour and the port itself. Work has started already and the lock will be in use by the end of 2010. Normal activity will continue in the port during the work.
The installation is designed to protect against peak flooding on the Danube which, according to statistics, occurs once every 10,000 years. The lock being built measures 13.5 metres deep by 26.5 metres wide. It will safeguard the future installations, services and goods stored in the port of Freudenau from damage.
