The port authority has awarded FCC Construcción phase I of the port development on the right bank of the Avilés estuary in a joint venture with a local company, for €24.71 million.

The work includes a wharf 506 m long with a draught of 14 m. The superstructure is supported on piles 1.65 m in diameter arranged in four rows parallel to the alignment in a grid of 6 x 9 m. The main girders will be built on site while the secondary ones are prefabricated. The wharf esplanade covers 54,000 m² and the project includes dredging some 800,000 m³.
