AENA, the Spanish airport and air navigation authority, has awarded FCC Construcción the 10.3-million-euro contract to build Barcelona airport's south control tower, which will be controlling the apron around the new El Prat terminal.

In addition, the contract includes the construction of a low, square auxiliary building. These two buildings will be connected by a basement car park.

The cylindrical control tower stands 44.55 metres high over the apron. It will also house related facilities and services, such as employee lounges and dormitories, while the auxiliary buildings will include equipment and facilities.

Ricardo Bofill participated in the architectural design, so the new buildings will blend in with the new terminal building.
